US Returns To Iran Newest Batch Of Over 1,000 Historical Clay Tablets: Report

The US has returned to Iran greater than 1,000 clay tablets courting from the Achaemenid-era, official media stated, reporting the sixth such handover of its form.

Iran’s official IRNA information company stated Thursday night that the tablets, 1,100 in all, have been returned with President Masoud Pezeshkian who had attended the United Nations Normal Meeting in New York.

Discovered on the ruins of Persepolis, the capital of the Persian Achaemenid Empire which dominated from the sixth to 4th centuries BC in southern Iran, the repatriated tablets replicate how the traditional society was organised and its economic system managed.

The tablets represent information of “the rituals and the lifestyle of our ancestors”, stated Ali Darabi, vice-minister of cultural heritage, cited by IRNA.

The tablets have been returned to Iran by the College of Chicago’s Institute for the Research of Historical Cultures, West Asia & North Africa, previously often called the Oriental Institute.

A big portion of the tablets have been returned in three batches between 1948 and 2004 earlier than the remainder have been blocked by authorized motion till 2018.

Greater than 3,500 tablets have been repatriated in September, 2023.
