India on Friday introduced that Exterior Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will journey to Pakistan to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in mid-October.
The announcement was made by exterior affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
The final Indian exterior affairs minister to go to Pakistan was Sushma Swaraj. She had travelled to Islamabad in December 2015 to attend a convention on Afghanistan.
Pakistan is internet hosting the SCO Council of Heads of Authorities (CHG) assembly on October 15 and 16.
“The exterior affairs minister will lead our delegation to Pakistan to take part within the SCO summit which can be held in Islamabad on October 15 and 16,” Mr Jaiswal mentioned at his weekly media briefing.
The spokesperson clarified that the exterior affairs minister is travelling to Pakistan solely to attend the SCO summit.
In August, Pakistan invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the SCO’s summit.
