Opposition MPs Boycott Parliamentary Committee Meet On Waqf Invoice

The Opposition MPs have boycotted the Joint Parliamentary assembly to debate the Waqf modification invoice and wrote to the Speaker demanding that the Committee chairman be eliminated. Alleging that the Committee is biased, they’ve sought time from the Speaker to debate the difficulty. The Opposition members have alleged {that a} presentation on the invoice by Anwar Manippadi, former Chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Fee and Karnataka Minorities Improvement Company, was not in regards to the Invoice. Mr Anwar, they alleged, was simply utilizing the event malign the Karnataka authorities and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

The committee — which has to submit its report back to the Lok Sabha by the top of the primary week of the following parliament session — is now holding a sequence of casual discussions with varied stakeholders.

The Waqf (Modification) Invoice, 2024, seeks to convey sweeping reforms, introducing digitisation, stricter audits, transparency, and authorized mechanisms to reclaim illegally occupied Waqf properties.
