A mother-son duo was booked by Pune rural police for allegedly killing a canine by hanging it from a tree, an official stated on Thursday.
The alleged incident happened in Pirangut space of Mulshi tehsil right here, he stated, including a case was registered towards Prabhavati Jagtap and her son Omkar Jagtap.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Aaditya Thackeray had raised the incident on social media platform and a grievance was filed after Padmini Stump, an animal activist who runs Mission Doable Basis which operates a shelter house for canines, approached the police and filed a case towards the mom and son.
“On October 22, Prabhavati allegedly assaulted their pet Labrador with a stick. Later, her son Omkar hanged the canine from a tree. We have now booked them beneath Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act,” Paud Highway police station senior inspector Santosh Girigosavi stated.
“Earlier than killing the canine, the household had referred to as up one canine lover from Pimpri and requested her to return and take the canine away. However later, they despatched an image of the canine hanging from a tree. We rushed there and registered an offence towards them,” Stump informed PTI.
The household had taken the canine to a vet and had requested him to conduct some assessments, together with rabies, she stated.
“Presuming that the pet has rabies, they may have killed it,” she stated.
