The Reserve Financial institution of India on Tuesday mentioned 98 per cent of the Rs 2,000 denomination notes have been returned since its Might 2023 transfer to withdraw the forex notes.

The whole worth of notes of the denomination has lowered to Rs 7,117 crore from Rs 3.56 lakh crore on Might 19, 2023, the central financial institution mentioned.

“98 per cent of the Rs 2000 banknotes in circulation as of Might 19, 2023, has since been returned,” the RBI mentioned.

On Might 19, 2023, the RBI introduced a shock resolution to withdraw the Rs 2,000 forex notes. The transfer was prompted by high quality issues and the denomination launched after the demonetisation of November 2016 fulfilling its objective.
