Police have seized 138 kg of ganja that had been delivered to Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district from Odisha in an ambulance and arrested two individuals, an official mentioned on Thursday.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Hitika Vasal advised reporters that performing on a tip-off, an ambulance was stopped at Bherughat, about 40 km from the district headquarters, on Wednesday and searched following which the narcotic substance was discovered hidden within the automobile.
The 138-kg consignment of ganja, stored in small and large packets within the rear portion of the ambulance, may fetch about Rs 40 lakh within the illicit drug market, he mentioned.
The arrested smugglers have been recognized as Kiran Hantal, alias Telco (19), and Balram Ganapatra, alias W (21), Vasal mentioned. Each hail from Odisha’s Koraput district, bordering Andhra Pradesh, she added.
“The consignment was introduced from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh. Within the preliminary interrogation, the smugglers have mentioned that they needed to provide this drug in Indore and different cities,” the official mentioned.
The Andhra Pradesh-registered ambulance used for inter-state smuggling of ganja has been seized, Mr Vasal mentioned.
Additional motion is being taken in opposition to the arrested smugglers underneath the Narcotic Medication and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and their interrogation is underway, the SP added.
